Along with his team, Thomas has participated in solar vehicle races since 1987. After bonding together for five years over various high performance electric drive-train projects, they formed Asmo GmbH in 1992.

Asmo GmbH under the able leadership and guidance of Thomas went on to win the Electric Vehicle World Cup several times from 1990 to 1995 across various categories like carts and motorbikes.

Thomas developed electric scooters for various companies like Simson, Cupex and Famel. Thomas has been the preferred consultant when it comes to troubleshooting for electric cart tracks in Europe, USA and Asia.

He won the World Championship FIA in the category of electric motorcycles, year being 1993 and 1994. He was the official drive-train supplier for the EXPO catamarans in 2002 and for the first solar boat that crossed the Atlantic in 2007
